Choosing between TaylorMade driver types

Read the version

TaylorMade sells one model in several versions, so check which one a listing is. In SIM and SIM2, the standard model is the lowest-spin version. Stealth uses Plus, while the Qi families use LS.

What the version names mean

Plus and LS are made for low backspin. Max aims to be steadier on off-centre hits. D and HD are aimed at a right-side miss such as a slice.

Adjustment and shafts

Many have an adjustable sleeve where the head joins the shaft, which changes the loft (face angle) slightly. The shaft on each listing tells you more than the flex letter.

TaylorMade driver families

Recent families

Qi10, Qi35 and Qi4D2024 to 2026
Standard, Max and LS versions, with a lighter-headed Max Lite from Qi35. All have a carbon face and an adjustable sleeve. TaylorMade positions LS for the least backspin and Max for stability.
Stealth and Stealth 22022 and 2023
Plus, standard and HD versions. Plus has the least backspin and HD is aimed at a right-side miss. Both have a carbon face, and TaylorMade says Stealth 2 has nearly double the carbon.
SIM and SIM22020 and 2021
Standard, Max and Max D versions. The standard head has the least backspin, Max is built for stability and Max D is aimed at a right-side miss. Only the original SIM has a sliding weight.
Older TaylorMade driver families
M5 and M62019
M5 has two movable weights in a track on the sole (the underside of the head), which change how high the ball launches and how much it spins. M6 has no track and is aimed at forgiveness. Both have an adjustable sleeve.
M3 and M42018
M3 and M4 introduced Twist Face. The face is shaped differently where golfers most often mishit, which TaylorMade says is designed to straighten those shots. M3 has movable weights. M4 has fixed weight and puts more emphasis on forgiveness.
M1 and M22016 and 2017
M1 has weights that slide along tracks to change how high the ball launches and which way it curves. M2 has a fixed weight and a larger face. Both have an adjustable sleeve and were updated for 2017.
SLDR, R15 and AeroBurnerup to 2015
SLDR and R15 have weights that slide along a track on the sole. AeroBurner was built around aerodynamics and has no adjustable sleeve, so its loft is fixed.
